Summer Math & Writing Institute

DON’T MISS! The Summer Math Institute provides students exposure to a variety of  math concepts based on an overarching theme. Students will be exposed to as many topics each week as is achievable in a fun and interactive experience. Participation in all three weeks is encouraged.

The Summer Writing Institute will include a thematic approach to writing to include creative writing, argumentative/persuasive writing, and memoir/personal statements writing. The depth and focus of courses taught will vary according to grade level to achieve grade-appropriate instruction and challenge. Counselor-in-Training Program (CIT)

Do you know a rising 9th or 10th grade student looking for a summer opportunity?

Summer at Hockaday's popular Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is a valued opportunity for students entering Grades 9 and 10. The CIT program is taught by experienced teachers who have a breadth of knowledge in the realm of volunteerism, team building, child development, and classroom management. As a CIT, you will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a counselor through hands-on experience and practice. You will spend a portion of the session with other CITs teambuilding and learning the skills necessary to allow you to serve as a volunteer, which you will then experience first-hand in selected camps offered by Summer at Hockaday. 

Through this program, you are certain to enhance your sense of citizenship and to grow your leadership skills. Delve into volunteerism, all while having fun, enhancing teamwork, and gaining real-world experience!

After completing the one-week training session, you will spend additional weeks volunteering within Summer at Hockaday camps and classes. You will quickly develop your own fan club as our campers and students adore our CITs!

All participants must attend one training session held either June 1 through June 5 or June 8 through June 12 and select a minimum of three additional weeks to serve as a CIT. Community service hours will be calculated for each participant. Participation is limited, so register early!

  • In 3D Printing Camp, 3D model and print items that show your true passion!  Themes will include: doll accessories, Pokémon characters, spy gadgets, desk pets, and dinosaurs. Lessons will focus on scalability and how designs can be easily uploaded and printed for mass consumption. Discover what it's like to operate, clean, and care for a 3D printer. Using cutting-edge 3D printers, campers will model prototypes, mod existing designs, and print them in 3D!

  • Artificial intelligence is an exciting new forefront of technology that is changing the way we live. In this camp, explore AI topics through engaging and fun hands-on experiences with artificially intelligent robots, programs, digital assistants, and code!   • Grades K-5th:
    Led by Hockaday's basketball coaching staff, this camp is all about building a love for the game while learning the fundamentals the right way. Campers will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive movement through fun, high-energy drills designed for younger players. Each day includes plenty of small-sided games and live play so kids can apply what they’re learning, stay engaged, and build confidence on the court. We want every camper to leave having learned new skills, made new friends, and feeling excited to come back to the gym.

    Grades 6th-8th:
    Led by Hockaday's basketball coaching staff, and designed for players ready to grow their game, this camp focuses on sharpening fundamentals while introducing more advanced concepts. Campers will work on ball handling, shooting mechanics, decision-making, and defensive principles, with a strong emphasis on playing the game the right way. Small-sided games and competitive scrimmages are a major part of each day, giving players space to experiment, compete, and learn in real game situations. The environment is challenging, supportive, and fun. Players can push themselves and leave better than they arrived.

  • All National Inventors Hall of Fame education programs are bult on the belief that every child can invent. Through open-ended, hands-on exploration, children build the I Can Invent Mindset - a growth mindset infused with lessons from world-changing inventors - that enables and empowers them in all areas of their lives. Camp will be divided into four modules that will unlock creative potential by including opportunities for campers to experience design thinking, creative problem solving, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, innovation, persistence, confidence, and innovation.

  • In this fun and creative camp, participants will create a custom tote bag and a digital design portfolio! Campers will be exposed to West Coast Vibes, including a relaxed vibe that boasts a casual and effortless look full of fringes, tassels, and bold colors.   • This hands-on summer camp invites campers to explore the creative and calming world of fiber arts while making a difference in their community. Campers will learn and practice a variety of textile techniques including crocheting, knitting, macrame, embroidery, and loom weaving. Whether campers are brand new to fiber arts or already love crafting, they will gain new skills, confidence, and creativity through guided projects and open studio time. A special focus of the camp will be using our talents to help others. We will create handmade items such as hats, blankets, and scarves to donate to Knots of Love, a non-profit organization that provides comfort items to chemo patients and babies in neonatal intensive care units (NICU).   • Join us to learn how STEM and medicine intersect and form the basis for everything that future doctors, nurses, researchers, and other practitioners do! On day one, you will learn how the body’s structure facilitates movement through bones, muscles, and the nervous system. After a quick dive into testing our nervous system to understand sense and perception, you will venture into forensic anthropology to learn more about how scientists use bone structure to help identify different bones. Work with our model skeleton, and at the end of the day, you will work to solve your first medical case! Do you know what is wrong with patient X? On day two, we will learn about body systems through a virtual dissection. Can you trace the entire digestive system? In the afternoon, we will use our knowledge to try to solve a mystery case. Medicine is more than science; it is also working with people. Day three is all about a variety of skills! Learn the basics of takin ga medical history, CPR, pulse, and respiration counts. Next, learn the science behind standard medical tests such as X-rays, CTs, and MRIs. Using your new-found knowledge, let’s investigate patient Y! Math in medicine? You bet! You will learn how math relates to medicine through hands-on case studies and projects. Use your newfound math skills to help solve interesting medical cases. Medicine is a changing field. On our last day, learn the basics of DNA science and then dive into looking at gene therapies and mRNA science that is changing the world!

  • Summer at Hockaday's musical theater is for ALL who have an interest in musical theater - no experience is necessary. Come have a blast with us as we produce Disney's 101 Dalmatians Kids on stage! Pet owners, Roger and Anita, live happily in London with their Dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, stalwart dogs devoted to raising their puppies. Everything is quiet until Anita's former classmate, the monstrous Cruella De Vil, plots to steal the puppies for her new fur coat. The Dalmatians rally all the dogs of London for a daring rescue of the puppies from Cruella and her bumbling henchmen. Be amazed at all your child will accomplish in one, fast week, and join us on Friday for our camp finale on stage!

    Registrations will close at 11:59 p.m. every Thursday for the upcoming week to allow us to prepare for new groups of participants.

  • Camp is designed for the 3rd-8th grade athlete as an introduction into the sport of volleyball, built on individual skills (serving, passing, setting, and hitting) and work in basic offensive and defensive concepts.

    Led by Hockaday's basketball coaching staff, this camp is all about building a love for the game while learning the fundamentals the right way. Campers will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive movement through fun, high-energy drills designed for younger players. Each day includes plenty of small-sided games and live play so kids can apply what they’re learning, stay engaged, and build confidence on the court. We want every camper to leave having learned new skills, made new friends, and feeling excited to come back to the gym.

    Grades 6th-8th:
    Led by Hockaday's basketball coaching staff, and designed for players ready to grow their game, this camp focuses on sharpening fundamentals while introducing more advanced concepts. Campers will work on ball handling, shooting mechanics, decision-making, and defensive principles, with a strong emphasis on playing the game the right way. Small-sided games and competitive scrimmages are a major part of each day, giving players space to experiment, compete, and learn in real game situations. The environment is challenging, supportive, and fun. Players can push themselves and leave better than they arrived.

  • Are you ready for the start of Fall sports? Whether you plan to play field hockey or volleyball, want to run cross country, or just need to shake off those summer cobwebs, this camp is for you! Preseason Conditioning Camp is designed for athletes in rising grades 6 through 12. This camp focuses on general conditioning work and drills related to your specific sports goals: sprinting, distance running, jumping, agility, etc. There will also be a focus on proper fueling and hydration, mobility, and injury prevention. Our coaches know that the athletes who perform best over the season are already in shape and ready to work on the first day of practice. You can also reduce your injury risk by getting in shape before the season begins. Let's go!
