Kaleidoscope Day Camp

Summer at Hockaday's longstanding day camp's two-week sessions will have a variety of activities to include imaginative play, critical thinking, creative expression, outdoor exploring, cooking, science, splash days, and much more. Each session will center around fun and engaging themes. Each two-week session will differ from previous sessions, so join us for multiple sessions!

This year's Kaleidoscope Day Camp will include campers entering Pre-K through Grade 2 in the fall of 2026. Campers must be 4 by May 1, 2026 to register for the 2026 season.

Kindergarten Prep

Is your child ready for kindergarten? Kindergarten Prep is a fun, purposeful camp offered for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Students will strengthen phonological awareness, phonics, basic math skills, and social skills through engaging, hands-on instruction. Each day includes teacher-led activities and time on Lexia Core5 Reading, a research-based computer program that supports early phonics skills. Participants will keep access to their Lexia Core5 account for one year after camp to continue practicing at home. Campers will also enjoy listening to social-emotional learning stories and completing a daily craft or activity connected to each book. Participation in multiple sessions is encouraged and campers should only attend either the morning or afternoon program during a single session. This camp is created and led by a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).

All National Inventors Hall of Fame education programs are built on the belief that every child can invent. Through open-ended, hands-on exploration, children build the I Can Invent Mindset - a growth mindset infused with lessons from world-changing inventors - that enables and empowers them in all areas of their lives. Camp will be divided into four modules that will unlock creative potential by including opportunities for campers to experience design thinking, creative problem solving, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, innovation, persistence, confidence, and innovation.

Explorations Camps & classes

Lower School Explorations offers weekly in-person camps for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade.
Participants must be 4 by May 1, 2026.

Programs offer a variety of activities and enrichment that span a wide range of interests. Classes are offered as half-day options with the opportunity to create a full-day of programming by selecting a morning and an afternoon program.

Explorations takes place in person June 1 through July 17 with morning sessions occurring 9:00 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions occurring 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch takes place from noon to 12:30 p.m.* Before and After Care is available for an additional fee. 

Registrations will close at 11:59 p.m. every Thursday for the upcoming week to allow us to prepare for new groups of participants.

*Explorations camps taking place June 1-5 will follow a 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. full-day schedule. Half-day camps will begin on June 8.

  • Led by Hockaday's basketball coaching staff, this camp is all about building a love for the game while learning the fundamentals the right way. Campers will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive movement through fun, high-energy drills designed for younger players. Each day includes plenty of small-sided games and live play so kids can apply what they’re learning, stay engaged, and build confidence on the court. We want every camper to leave having learned new skills, made new friends, and feeling excited to come back to the gym.

  • Let your child score big with Kidokinetics Basketball Fundamentals! Our program introduces basic skills of the game in a fun and inclusive environment, adapted from USA Basketball concepts and techniques. Coaches focus on ball handling, passing, shooting, footwork, and even introductory game play to build confidence in young athletes. Not only will your child learn fundamental basketball skills, but they will also develop speed, agility, coordination, accuracy, and endurance. It's a fun way for your child to improve physical skills while learning a new sport and building self-confidence.

  • Dig in and discover where your food really comes from! Campers will explore the full journey of food - from nurturing plants in the garden to transforming fresh ingredients into simple, delicious dishes.   • Coach Stewart Ball and his staff of coaches have taught hundreds of children to ride a bike. Let us teach you to ride in this popular, low pressure, enjoyable class. All you need is a bike, helmet, water bottle, and snack. Bikes can be kept on campus throughout the week's class.

    In this special full-day camp week, campers will experience bike camp lessons in the mornings and participate in gym activities to practice balance and coordination in the afternoons.

To create an experience with STEM that is both fun and engaging, this camp guides campers to work collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. Our Kidokinetics tumblefun program offers a unique and exciting blend of warmups and stretches, age-appropriate anatomy and physiology, and tumbling skills designed specifically for kids. With each session, your child will be introduced to new skills like rolls, handstands and cartwheel prep, while having fun with bubbles, music, rhythm streamers, and obstacle courses. Participants who attend a combination of a morning and afternoon offering within the same week should add lunch to their camp schedule for an additional fee. Lunch includes hot and cold options, fresh fruit and vegetables, yogurt, a fresh salad bar, and dessert on Fridays.
